ESRI (UK)ESRI (UK) is helping Government organisations around the UK to use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to make real progress towards their objectives. GIS enables Government to know 'what’s happening where' in order to inform policy, design services and to efficiently allocate and manage resources. According to ‘Place Matters’ (The Location Strategy for the UK - DCLG Nov 2009), over 80% of government information relates to location. Geographic Information Systems help Government to manage, analyse and visualise this information. For example, GIS can facilitate better policy making and implementation. It can generate a fuller, more realistic picture of service provision, activity levels or citizen needs. And it can boost internal workflow and enhance productivity, forming a platform that organisations can use to create and benefit from shared services. Location, is key in underpinning and informing the emerging partnership and multiagency shared service initiatives such as Total Place. We work with the majority of Central Government departments, many of their agencies, and also the devolved administrations, helping them to evolve their service provision and address the key issues they are facing through this truly enabling technology. To find out more about ESRI (UK)’s projects within Central Government – and to see how ESRI (UK) can help you meet your goals – download our comprehensive white paper Geography: Enabling the Business of Government.
