imageJenny Grey has been appointed as the executive director for all of the government’s communications. Grey has held the role in an interim capacity since October last year, alongside her previous role of Cabinet Office director of policy communications. Before joining the Cabinet Office, Grey worked at the Audit Commission, the National Patient Safety Agency, and Cancer Research UK.

imageAndy Nelson, chief information officer at the Ministry of Justice (MOJ), has been announced as the next government CIO. Nelson takes over from Joe Harley, who leaves at the end of March, and will retain his post at the MoJ.

Tim Kelsey’s role of executive director for Transparency and Open Data within the Efficiency and Reform Group (ERG), initially a fixed-term position involving his secondment from consultancy McKinsey, has been made permanent.

Sharon White has been appointed director general of public spending in HM Treasury. White, previously a director general at the Ministry of Justice, joined the Treasury last year to lead a review into HM Treasury’s management of the financial crisis during 2007-’09 and its aftermath.

Peter Schofield has left the Treasury, where he was director of the Enterprise and Growth Unit, to take up the role of director general for neighbourhoods at the communities department.

The communities department has also appointed Stewart Gilliland, formerly chief executive of food business Müller UK, as a non-executive director. Meanwhile Graham Williams, a former PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) partner, has been appointed as a non-executive member of the Ministry of Defence board, and chair of the department’s Audit Committee.

David Green will be the next director of the Serious Fraud Office. He will take up the post in April 2012 when the current director, Richard Alderman, steps down.
