Chief secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander has lauded the Community Budgets pilots as an “incredibly powerful idea” for pursuing public service reform, but said that they “could do with a bit more impetus and a bit more oomph.”
Alexander was speaking in a fringe event at the Lib Dem conference this week. His comments come at a time when many local authorities have been complaining at a lack of progress on pooled budgets, and enthusiasm for the idea among Whitehall departments appears to be in decline.
