imageAs the public sector undergoes a period of unprecedented change, it is good to know that law firm Pinsent Masons is on hand to offer well-informed advice and support.

The public sector spending cuts are wide and deep. That means they impact upon civil servants at every level, whether in relation to their own working conditions, or in the way they make decisions for their organisation.

Pinsent Masons is a key provider of legal advice and support to the public sector. As part of its commitment to supporting the civil service in this time of significant change, the firm is offering a free seminar that addresses some of the most important issues facing local and national government.

An issue at the forefront of every public sector worker’s mind is the future of their pension arrangements. Pinsent Masons’ Head of Public Sector Pensions, John Hanratty, actively contributed to the Hutton Commission, and will talk about its likely implications, and how government departments can best respond to it.

Hanratty will also share thoughts about the government’s consultation on the future of Fair Deal, which protects the pensions of civil servants transferring into the private sector.

Like his namesake, the economist Will Hutton has reported to the government about public sector workers’ pay and conditions. In his report, the ‘other Hutton’ recommends significant changes including a move to performance-related pay and greater transparency about earnings.

Helen Farr, who is an Employment partner at Pinsent Masons, will speak at the seminar, with ideas to help attendees manage the impact of Hutton’s proposals. “The public sector can draw on the experience of the private sector in this area,” Farr remarks. “I will share thinking about ways to manage change.”

Farr will also speak about the Public Sector Equality Duty. “Public sector bodies are required to publish details by the end of the year about their compliance with the Duty,” Farr reports. “I will offer guidance about this process.”

With a further discussion about the implications of government plans to reduce the number of quangos, the seminar addresses many of the hottest topics of the moment for the public sector. So be sure to attend, and receive advice that is well-informed, and timely:
