Spare A Little Time To Make A Massive Difference

Volunteers have always been at the heart of what the Civil Service Benevolent Fund does. So, during 1-7 June, we’ll be celebrating the fantastic contribution of our volunteers as part of Volunteers’ Week and encouraging others to get involved.

Volunteer Week logoThe contribution of our volunteers is invaluable. Each year our volunteers donate around 50,000 hours of their time to support our work and we couldn’t do what we do without their help.

They represent us at events, undertake fundraising activities in the workplace and in the community, and they raise awareness amongst their colleagues.

Importantly, they enable us to cover the whole of the United Kingdom and reach into people’s homes.

In our 125th anniversary, therefore, the Fund wants to reflect on the value of volunteering and encourage more people to get involved.

It’s a way to give something back, develop new skills, and it’s rewarding helping to make a real difference to people’s lives.

Our campaign goal is to get as many people as possible signing up to donate 125 minutes of their time to volunteer for the Fund, and to get involved in Fund Week, our annual fundraising extravaganza, held from 10-14 October.

Please sign up to volunteer on our Volunteers Week channel. The Fund is also keen to organise Lunch and Learn sessions within workplaces, which offer anyone interested in knowing more about their in-house charity an easy way of finding out why volunteering for the Fund can be so rewarding.

Launching the scheme, the Fund’s Director for People Nicola Pountney said: “Our 125th anniversary appeal isn’t just about raising £125,000 for your in-house charity, which helps thousands of current, former, and retired civil servants every year.

“It’s also about encouraging more people to give just a little of their time to support our vital work, whether through acting as a contact point in their office, organising a fundraising event, or visiting someone needing advice, support, and information.

“Volunteering is a great way of learning new skills and gaining a real sense of personal achievement, and we can offer a range of roles to suit what you want to do as a Fund volunteer.”

Our new volunteer film, Making Lives Better, illustrates clearly the link between our volunteers and our work.
