The Rock Inn Yelverton

The Rock Inn, Yelverton, Devon, is the main pub/hostelry in this lovely village. It is situated, smack in the middle of Yelverton, beside the shops, bus terminus and a few yards from the church.

The pub itself, has two main rooms, the one to the right as you enter, is the main dining area, and the room to the left, is mainly for drinkers. Whichever room you choose, each has a homely, relaxed atmosphere to it.

The menu itself, is varied, and I have had a number of dishes during the past six years. My favourite, is their Ploughman's Lunch. It has succulent, mouth watering ham ( sourced locally ) and tasty strong cheddar. The presentation itself, is a joy to look at . I am a great believer that you eat with both your eyes and your mouth. The chef takes great pride in arranging everything beautifully. A Ploughman's should ALWAYS be served on a wooden platter or slate.

Chef always serves his bread rolls, warm, another essential in a Ploughman's. If you decide to have the Ploughman's, I would recommend the Jail Ale to wash it down with.

The Rock also has a very good dessert menu, and if I recall, it serves Langage Farm Dairy Ice Cream - out of this world.

There is an excellent choice of real ales from the local Dartmoor Brewery in Princetown, including Jail Ale. They also stock local ciders from Cornwall, which I have tried - and enjoyed.

The staff are very friendly, helpful and knowledgable, when it comes to advice on local country walks. In Yelverton, you are literally spoilt for choice. There are walks in all directions, and it would take a long time to cover them all. You can either opt for the reservoir or the numerous little villages that surround Yelverton, which is right on the doorstep of Dartmoor.

A first class English vilage pub, that is tops for both food and choice of ales, and friendliness of staff. Thoroughly recommended, and ticks all the aforementioned boxes.
