The Get Writing Challenge Terms & Conditions

The Get Writing Challenge has been arranged courtesy of Pill Hill Press, a small publishing company from the USA that has an open submission challenge for various themes to be published throughout the year as part of thier anthology collections.

In addition to their normal open submissions they have also agreed to publish an collection of short stories by Civil Servants in an exclusive deal with the Amaze Project.

The theme of the stories will be Children's Suspense & Adventure Stories.Tim Knight will be credited as the Editor of the collection. And the book will be released on major platforms such as Amazon etc, through Ingram.

We are looking for Children's Suspense and Adventure Stories with an age range between 6-12yrs old, the idea is that they will be able to read this book as they grow up, so there will be a mix of stories involved.

The content of the stories is up to the writer, as long as it is suitable for children, and doesn't involve, graphic violence, sexual content, death - such as murder, or anything that would not be suitable for a six year old to read. We will not accept anything with any reference to drugs, essentially ask yourself what would you like your child to read?

There will be further guidance available in due course in relation to what is not acceptable, but as long as you follow the above, you should mostly be safe.

One of the key things to note with this project is that anyone who takes part and has thier work published will not receive any royalties, this is so we keep within the Civil Service Code of Conduct. The first publication of stories, Pill Hill Press will retain the royalties for themselves, this is because they will not charge us for printing the book, or distributing, plus for ease of setting up, we felt this was the best route for the first publication. If a success, when the second book is published the Royalties will go to charity, and this will continue to be the theme for every publication in the future. Those who get thier work published, will agree which charity to give too as part of the prize.

We will also host a competition to design the front cover of the book too, as a seperate competition.

All stories must have powerful character-driven plots. All novels should be well-written with solid material and a beginning, middle and an end.

We encourage authors to promote themselves and their books, this will be done on the Amaze Website. Authors are free to submit artwork created by them or for them, but final cover selection is left to the discretion of Pill Hill Press/Amaze Project. (see Front Cover Design Competition). Cover artwork supplied by the author is the property of the publisher until the publishing contract is terminated. At that time, author-supplied art is returned and not used by Pill Hill Press at any point in the future.

The Amaze Project will edit your manuscript, but Author must approve all changes (the final draft) before it is sent to the printer. We work with our authors to make the best possible product.

All Pill Hill Press book titles are available for ordering through Ingram in both the United States and United Kingdom. Your book will be available from most online retailers, including Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Blackwells, and others.

As author, you own the rights to your novel. However, during the contract period entered into with the Amaze Project, you have licensed your book exclusively to Pill Hill Press US and do not have the right to sell your book to another publisher unless authorized by Pill Hill Press. As part of the publishing contract you grant Pill Hill Press the right to print, distribute, promote and sell your book for a specific length of time.

Pill Hill Press provides your ISBN (Internatinal Standard Book Number) for your book. An ISBN is required by all book sales channels and bookstores to track and order your book. Pill Hill Press covers the cost involved in this process. If, however, you request a withdrawal of your book from our library, you will need a new ISBN if you publish elsewhere.

Once the initial period of your publishing contract ends, you are free to enter into any other agreements with whomever you wish. However, other publishers may ask you to sever your agreement with Pill Hill Press and grant them exclusive rights. This can only be done once you have fulfilled your obligations under the contract with The Amaze Project. If you have an offer from another publisher, that company may offer a quit claim buy-out to Pill Hill Press to receive the rights to your work. We will consider any such offer and always strive to acheive the maximum benefit for our authors. We spend a considerable amount of time and money getting your book into print, commissioning cover artwork, and getting your book into the sales system and book catalogs. A fair return on our investment is all we seek.
