The government is to publish a draft list of around a dozen open technology standards which it will expect all public sector organisations to use, according to Cabinet Office director of ICT strategy and policy Bill McCluggage.
The Government ICT Strategy, published in March, said government would publish a set of mandatory technology standards, to allow greater interoperability and re use of IT kit, within six to 12 months.
McCluggage told technology website ITU Live that the government’s last attempt to define technology standards was too complex. The Cabinet Office will publish a draft list of standards for formal consultation, he said, starting with “a handful, a suite of about 10 to a dozen” which it sees as the most important.
