Quangos should publish detailed performance data from their last three years, displayed clearly on their websites, according to a joint report by the Institute for Government and the Public Chairs’ Forum.

The report notes that “the government transparency agenda is indelibly associated with financial transparency in the public mind.” It therefore states that quangos should publish a list of contracts; financial statements for projects, events, procurement and tendering procedures; revenues and spending for the past three years; and financial audit reports.

It also suggests that quangos publish the attendance records of board members, to show which members are “actively contributing to decision-making and meeting the conditions of their appointment.” The report calls for all information to be in standard formats, and available online in versions that enable readers to ‘copy and paste’ the information.
