The government's Green IT Strategy will be written by officials from the Ministry of Defence (MoD), Cabinet Office and HMRC, and will be published in October alongside the plan for delivering the broader IT strategy, HMRC has announced.

The MoD is accountable for the overall strategy but HMRC official Rubi Kaur will be editor in chief of the document.

Kaur explained on HMRC’s intranet that “it’s up to me to steer and guide where the government Green ICT Strategy goes and what needs to be done,” adding that “other departmental sustainability leads will have to do their bits for it, so I’ve got to cajole and collaborate to pull everything together.”

HMRC’s chief information officer, Phil Pavitt, said that his department’s role in producing the plan shows “HMRC moving from the receiving end of the strategy to the forefront of writing it,” adding that “this is a very proud moment for us.”
