Jeremy Moore has been appointed as the director of both the independent living agenda and the Office for Disability Issues within the Department for Work and Pensions. He takes up his post in September and replaces Tim Cooper.
Moore’s independent living remit is to ensure a “joined-up” approach to disability issues across government, including employment and benefits. He will also head the Office for Disability Issues, which is a cross-departmental organisation that represents disabled people.
Moore said of his appointment: “I am committed to championing the rights of disabled people at every level and working towards disability equality across government.”
Minister for disabled people Maria Miller said that “bringing all disability issues together under one director reflects our commitment to a more joined-up approach in ensuring disability issues are given the attention they deserve.”
