"I’m delighted to be introducing the shortlist for the 2011 Civil Service Diversity and Equality Awards. This is the fifth time the awards have taken place and the fourth in partnership with Civil Service World.
Delivering on the diversity agenda is a key part of the wider Civil Service reform programme. I am proud to lead a Civil Service that delivers services to an increasingly diverse range of people and, in these challenging times, continues to strive for as diverse a workforce as possible.
With these awards we can see excellent achievements right across the Civil Service - they show how our traditional values of integrity, honesty, objectivity and impartiality underpin and guide all our work. But they also show how people have risen to the challenge of the 4Ps – pride in their work, professionalism, pace and passion.
The awards give us the opportunity to celebrate success and to thank the individuals and teams, across government, who continue to push the diversity agenda forward through their commitment and courage.
The nominations received have been inspirational and the standard has been stronger than ever. They have come from across the UK as well as overseas and reflect the wide variety of services that the Civil Service delivers to the public.
Our expert panel of internal and external short-listers found it a real challenge to narrow down the nominations to just three in each category. The winners for each category will be announced at the 2011 Civil Service Diversity and Equality Awards ceremony in October.
The winners will then go forward as nominees for the overall Diversity & Equality award to be announced at the next Civil Service Awards ceremony.
It is a real achievement to be shortlisted and I want to pass on my congratulations to everyone on the list. I look forward to meeting you in October. And I would also like to thank everyone else who entered. Your successes and achievements are an inspiration to us all."
Sir Gus O’Donnell GCB,
Cabinet Secretary and Head of the Home Civil Service
