Effective leadership and employee engagement during times of change
An engaged workforce is a productive workforce but in the civil service, rapid, radical change threatens staff engagement at the very time when reform is needed most. Good leadership, to support staff motivation, will be more important than ever as civil servants face uncertainty and restructuring on a scale not seen for decades.
Cabinet Secretary Sir Gus O’Donnell recently told the Public Administration Select Committee that maintaining morale at this time of uncertainty has proved “a real leadership challenge”. He expects staff satisfaction levels to drop in the recently completed Civil Service People Survey, and evidence from the annual ‘Worktrends’ report produced by HR experts Kenexa confirms that levels of engagement in the public sector are significantly lower than those in the private sector.
Now that the full scale of budget cuts and required reforms are known, HR professionals must support staff engagement as the impact of cuts is felt, while implementing workforce reductions in a way which keeps the skills that departments will need for the future.
This conference, in partnership with Kenexa, will offer HR professionals in the public sector practical advice on how to meet this major challenge. The conference will examine the latest best practice and hear advice from civil service leaders and experts from across the public and private sector.
Practical case studies and hands-on workshops will give delegates the opportunity to develop their skills and discuss the issues facing their own teams, equipping them to lead more effectively.
