The UK civil service is admired around the world for its consistent ability to deliver an incredibly high standard of service to the country.
To maintain the government’s world-class status, it constantly strives to improve systems, drive efficiency and increase its operating standards. Innovation and research are essential to this constant improvement and it is vital that this best practice is communicated across government.
The Civil Service Awards have been developed as the only senior civil service awards programme that promotes innovation and improvement across the entire breadth of central government.
By taking examples of excellent projects, initiatives and teamwork championed by senior government, this unique programme provides a platform from which government can share knowledge and further modernise the delivery of services.
Its success comes from the programme’s ability to showcase winning teams as lessons in and examples of best practice that can be applied across the civil service through the pages of Civil Service World.

Civil Service World roundtables
A well chosen topic, carefully selected trigger questions, and an excellently facilitated discussion of influential players from across government. Really opened my eyes to the breadth of interest of colleagues never otherwise meet all together in this critical area of policy, and provided fresh insights into the key issues.

Civil Service Live Gateshead
“The Civil Service Live event was an extremely enjoyable event which afforded us the opportunity to network with a broad range of colleagues from across a spectrum of departments, whom we ordinarily would not have an opportunity to meet with together. It was great to be able to speak on the day and share my experiences of best practise with fellow civil servants who were very interested in hearing what I had to say. In a spirit of mutual learning and innovation we came together, and left feeling much more enriched and invigorated. Events like this are extremely stimulating and are an important source of the energy which continues to drive us throughout the year.’’
