Permanent Secretary’s Awards 2011

Welcome to the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills Permanent Secretary’s Awards 2011

These awards aim to give recognition to and reward high performing teams in all areas of the Department.

There are three broad categories you should consider when submitting your nomination (see below). We have listed a few examples of what each of these might mean and the kind of evidence the nominations will be judged on.  We are keen to hear what was achieved and what the outcomes were.

Openness
We are looking for teams which have made connections to deliver a key departmental objective or high priority project, either within BIS, or especially, with OGDs, external stakeholders and the wider world.  Openness might be:
  • Pushing new ideas, feedback and challenge...
  • Being outward facing and transparent...
  • Taking the risk to fail...

Flexibility
We are looking for teams which have acted flexibly to deliver work of importance or priority to BIS and its wider stakeholders.
  • Recognising and responding to the needs of colleagues around you...
  • Finding new ways of doing things, and recognising diverse approaches...
  • Taking the initiative to solve a problem...

Innovation
We are looking for teams who have delivered work which has changed the way BIS does things, or really improved our delivery to key customers / stakeholders.
Innovation could include:
  • Using new ideas or new thinking to improve what we do...
  • Introducing new approaches or tools to deliver our work more efficiently...
  • Finding better ways of working together...
You can nominate your team, or any team from across BIS for any piece of work you think deserves recognition. If a team is nominated more than once, it will be considered as one nomination, as a whole. You don’t need approval to nominate and the process will be confidential.

‘Team’ in this context means everyone involved in the piece of work you are nominating them for. We are particularly keen to hear about examples where our commitment to Equality and Diversity is working in practice.

Nominations for the awards are now closed. If you have a late entry or any questions please contact Rachel Longstaff via email: rachel.longstaff@bis.gsi.gov.uk
